Title |
Reactor Exercises |
Prerequisites |
To gain fundamental knowledge and understanding of Neutronics through introductory lectures and comprehensive practical exercises |
Goal of the course |
Object of the course is fundamental understanding of neutron physics |
Content |
The course consists of lectures which will be held in the morning of each day, followed by practical exercises in the afternoon using the Siemens Unterrichtsreaktor (SUR 100) – a zero power reactor. The morning lectures cover the following topics: radiation, measurement of radioactivity, introduction into neutronics, cross sections, homogeneous reactor, neutron flux distribution in one and two groups as well as point kinetics. The practical exercises contain the start-up and shut-down of the reactor, measurement of neutron flux distribution by means of activation and by means of disturbance of the flux distribution due to an absorber. In addition, the reactivity of a control plate will be determined. Besides this, the ambient dose rate and gamma-activity inside the reactor room will be measured and evaluated. |
