Title

Reactor physics calculations with deterministic methods

Prerequisites

Fundamentals of reactor physics, e.g. course 003

Goal of the course

Providing physical and mathematical basis for reactor physics calculations, training in code application

Content

The theoretical part explains treatment of nuclear data in reactor calculations, forms of neutron transport equation and related numerical techniques, perturbation theory, reactor kinetics, calculation of isotopic inventories. In particular, the multigroup method; continuous energy and multigroup data libraries, resonance cross-sections and effects; heterogeneity treatment; general scheme of reactor calculations; perturbation theory; neutron kinetics and burn-up calculations are considered. Training includes using of a cell code for generation of macroscopic cross-sections; full core neutron transport calculations with nodal and Sn methods; computation of reactivity coefficients and kinetics parameters, time-dependent and burn-up calculations. The theoretical and training parts address both thermal and fast reactors. A full day is on PWR and BWR reactor physics analyses and related calculation tools applied at Framatome.
The course will be given in English.
