Title

One-dimensional two-phase flow

Prerequisites

Fundamentals of fluid mechanics

Objectives

Prediction of two-phase flow phenomena with system codes

Content

The course teaches the fundamentals of physical modeling of a flow of liquid and steam in tubes and introduces to the prediction of pressure losses, density and mass flows distributions with one-dimensional system codes. It includes in particular:

  • Flow patterns and their prediction with flow maps.
  • The homogeneous flow model and its applications.
  • The drift flux model for bubbly flow.
  • The separate flow model with 6 balance equations for general predictions of two-phase flow.
  • Critical mass flow with sonic velocity of two-phase flow through nozzles and valves.
  • Dynamic effects of two-phase flow.

The course includes exercises with the system code APROS 6, a general one-dimensional system code for nuclear and conventional power plants.
